William's Fifth Birthday

Will has been talking about this party since we went to our friend Celia Trotter's party last spring and he saw her fly through the sky at Let It Shine gymnastics. He had a great time.

A Ben-10 birthday cake! It was awful - I thought I would do banana flavor with chocolate icing, and it was plain out nasty, nasty, nasty cake.
This is Will and Trip in Target on the birthday. Ages five and six - still not easy to go to the store with at all!

We are in Will's class here - Mrs. Sansom's Pre-K class at David Lipscomb Elementary School. I love the way it's decorated and the kids in Will's class are so sweet. The picture below is hilarious because my face looks crazy - I am reading the Dr. Suess book to his class after we ate a Happy Meal. It's fun because these times are fleeting, you might as well do the fun stuff, you know?

From 'To A Young Son' by Julia Johnson Davis

In your face I sometimes see
Shadowings of the man to be,
And eager, dream of what my son
Will be in twenty years and one.

But when you are to manhood grown
And all your manhood ways are known,
Then shall I, wistful, try to trace
The child you once were in your face?

MY LITTLE ONE - By Tennessee Williams

My little one whose tongue is dumb, whose fingers cannot hold to things, who is so mercilessly young, he leaps upon the instant things, I hold him not.

Indeed, who could? He runs into the burning wood. Follow, follow if you can! He will come out grown to a man and not remember whom he kissed, who caught him by the slender wrist and bound him by a tender yoke which, understanding not, he broke.

We are so very glad that you are happy...
long may you keep so, my dear boy...
May you go on as well
as you have begun.
- Charles Darwin
