How We Play

It is fun to look at the way these guys play and what they think is fun. Will likes toys A LOT. He collects things, puts things in boxes, always can find a way to make voices or sounds or make up stories about little cars, people, action figures and stuffed animals. Here he is playing with his 'town' in his room. Trip likes to make things, fix things and take things apart. He does lots of drawing, painting, cutting, and taping, and loves to work with tools. He also can be found in constant motion with a ball or bat or golfclub. He is in the picture with his beads - and he can make a great necklace for anyone. The third picture here is an excavation of dinasaur bones in our backyard. The boys are certain they have found bones from various parts of a big dinasaur and they confirmed it with our 75-yr old neighbor that this is one of the biggest finds in our whole neighborhood. Another note about how these guys play: THEY DON'T STOP.

From 'To A Young Son' by Julia Johnson Davis

In your face I sometimes see
Shadowings of the man to be,
And eager, dream of what my son
Will be in twenty years and one.

But when you are to manhood grown
And all your manhood ways are known,
Then shall I, wistful, try to trace
The child you once were in your face?

MY LITTLE ONE - By Tennessee Williams

My little one whose tongue is dumb, whose fingers cannot hold to things, who is so mercilessly young, he leaps upon the instant things, I hold him not.

Indeed, who could? He runs into the burning wood. Follow, follow if you can! He will come out grown to a man and not remember whom he kissed, who caught him by the slender wrist and bound him by a tender yoke which, understanding not, he broke.

Poem

We are so very glad that you are happy...
long may you keep so, my dear boy...
May you go on as well
as you have begun.
- Charles Darwin
